A downloadable mod for Windows

Nightmare House 2 is a horror themed modification for the Source Engine.


The mod started as a small map pack for Half-Life 2 in 2005. Nightmare House 2 is to continue the bizarre story of the stranger who had the misfortune to crash his car outside an old house with a horrific past.

In Nightmare House 2 you wake up inside an abandoned hospital with no understanding of how you came to be there, only a vague memory of the girl from Nightmare House haunts you. Soon it will be difficult to determine between a dream and reality. How long will it take you to realize that escape is not an option?

Install instructions

This modification requires a registered Steam client.

  1. Extract the NH folder inside this rar to: Steam\steamapps\sourcemods (if sourcemods doesn't exists create it).
  2. Restart Steam and Nightmare House 2 should appear in your game library.

Note that you are not required to own any Source engine based game (Half-Life 2, etc) in order for NH2 to run.

However, steam will automatically download the base assets when trying to launch NH2 without any Source based game installed, so get ready to download a few extra GBs.

If you do not know where your main steam folder is it can usually be found in C:\Program Files or similar.

Intro Crash Fix

YOU MAY CRASH AFTER THE INTRO LOGO, to fix this do the following:

  1. Go to your Steam library, click on games, from the drop menu select tools.
  2. In the tool list find  "Source SDK base 2013 singleplayer", right click on it, select properties.
  3. Go to the BETAS tab, you should see a little down arrow under the "Select the beta you would like to opt into" title, click on it and from the dropdown menu choose "upcoming-" and click close.
  4. Steam will download some missing files, when done, restart your steam and launch NH2 again.
